The Cable Community Farm is now a certified member of the Travel Green Wisconsin program!

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism proudly welcomes the Cable Community Farm as a certified member of its Travel Green Wisconsin program. With a longstanding conservation legacy, this program furthers Wisconsin’s commitment to sustainability. While it seems a natural fit for a community farm to be engaged in sustainable practices, the Cable Community Farm is exemplary in its focus on reducing waste and using recycled materials whenever possible.   “Wisconsin has a longstanding tradition of conservation and Travel Green Wisconsin is an opportunity for businesses to further distinguish themselves for their sustainable practices,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “We applaud their commitment to making sustainability a priority to their business, knowing the importance of doing our part now preserves our natural resources and treasures for future generations.” “The process of completing the application was very informative in and of itself”, states Katie Hancock, Director of the Cable Community Farm. “It was easy for us to gain points for producing organic food, composting, recycling, and encouraging healthy lifestyles, however the application also highlighted many ways that we can improve, such as creating an environmental policy for our organization and reducing our energy consumption. Our Leadership Team is committed to setting goals to strengthen our environmental performance and communicating our efforts to the public.” Plans are underway for a native plant garden to attract native pollinators and there have already been efforts to eliminate invasive species from the property. In addition, a self-guided tour of the community farm will soon be available to help visitors learn about conservation efforts and sustainable agriculture practices.
